Washington Post Touts Annapolis
Cindy Loose

Annapolis bed and breakfasts might well see an increase in reservations from DC area residents thanks to a February 10 story by Cindy Loose in the Washington Post travel section. The CVB assisted Ms. Loose during her fact-finding visit to Annapolis in late January. Entitled "Annapolis B&Bs: Full of Character(s)," the article kicked off a new The Long Weekend weekly feature in the Post. Her article invites readers to take a weekend to explore the bed and breakfasts, restaurants, and attractions of Annapolis. The syndicated article is now appearing in newspapers across the country.

Maryland Living Highlights Annapolis

Maryland LivingTelevision viewers who tuned into WMAR-TV Channel 2 on Easter Sunday between 9:00 and 9:30 a.m. got a taste of what's new in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County when the television show, Maryland Living, took a snapshot look at Maryland's capital city and what lies ahead for visitors this season. Produced by Ed Reahl Productions and hosted by Steve Rouse, the segment included interviews with Steve Samaras of Zachary's Jewelers, Historic Annapolis Foundation's Alexandra Deutsch, Rusty Romo from Harry Browne's, Cindy Cole Semans and Isabel Vandenberg of the Artisans Parade, and the CVB's Susan Steckman.

Baby Boomers Invited To Discover Anne Arundel County

Linda BarrettFreelance travel writer Linda Barrett will be inviting baby boomers to discover Anne Arundel County when she puts pen to paper for Fifty Plus Magazine following her March 14-16 visit to the destination. The CVB's Susan Steckman escorted Ms. Barrett around the county, introducing her to its restaurants, attractions, and bed and breakfasts. The writer plans to focus her article on how easy it is for visitors to explore Maryland's capital city on foot.

Syndicated Columnist To Feature Destination

Art lovers and antiquing enthusiasts around the country will have a better sense of the treasures that await them in Anne Arundel County when Dr. Lori Verderame recounts her March 7-8 visit to the county in an upcoming Fine Art and Antiques by Dr. Lori column. After spending the evening in Annapolis compliments of the Westin, Dr. Lori and her photographer departed early Saturday for a full day of exploring and photographing around the county. Dr. Verderame's syndicated column is carried by over 30 magazines and newspapers across the United States.

CVB Attends Bus Association Marketplace

The CVB's Joyce Baki attended the American Bus Association's Annual Marketplace in Virginia Beach, VA in early February. She met with representatives from more than 60 tour operator companies who are considering Annapolis and Anne Arundel County as tour destinations. The American Bus Association is planning to hold its 2010 marketplace at the Gaylord National Hotel. If you are interested in receiving leads from the Virginia Beach show or would like more information about how you can work with motorcoach operators, please email Joyce at jbaki@VisitAnnapolis.org.

Towne Criers to Compete in Annapolis

Squire Fred

The CVB is bringing a North American Towne Crier Competition to Annapolis on Saturday, May 3, at 1:00 p.m. To date, nearly 20 towne criers from the United States and Canada have registered to compete in the event that will take place during the May 1-4 ANNAPOLIS ALIVE! CharterFest celebration at City Dock. In the works since the spring of 2006 when the CVB first invited the American Guild of Towne Criers to consider Annapolis, the event is the brainchild of City of Annapolis Towne Crier Squire Frederick Taylor, who will serve as host for the day's festivities.

Before the towne criers depart on Sunday, May 4, the CVB and its member partners will give them the grand tour of Annapolis so that they can cry out their praise for Maryland's capital city when they return to their own home towns.

Tourism Survey Focuses On CVB

The CVB will have a better sense of how its members capitalize on their CVB membership when a group of graduate students from George Washington University releases the results of a recent, random survey of CVB member partners. Students in the Masters of Tourism Administration program selected the CVB for a research project that focused on CVB member benefits and advertising possibilities. After compiling and analyzing the data, the students will present their recommendations to the CVB.

Volunteers Help Sell The Destination

The volunteers who man our Visitors Center are gearing up for the season by visiting our attractions, bed and breakfasts, hotels, and service providers for a firsthand experience of all that they have to offer. The newfound information enables them to better answer questions and make recommendations to inquiring visitors.

To date, the volunteers have taken the Discover-Annapolis Trolley Tour, visited History Quest, been pampered at the new Varuna Aveda Salon & Spa at Park Place, and toured the Westin Annapolis Hotel, the DoubleTree Hotel, and the Banneker-Douglass Museum.

Our volunteers are extremely knowledgeable. So, the next time you have a guest with a question, give us a call! The volunteers look forward to spending time with all of our partners in the near future.
