Sock Burning, a Quirky Right of Spring, Lives On in Annapolis

The maritime tradition of sock burning can be traced back to early sailors. On March 21, 2015 from noon to 5 p.m., head over to the Annapolis Maritime Museum (723 Second Street, Annapolis, MD 21401) for this one of a kind event. With the loosening grip of winter on the horizon, the seafarers would gather together and symbolically burn their socks to usher in the warm weather while ridding themselves of the uncomfortable socks worn throughout winter while at sea.
