Annapolis Celebrates Maryland's 150th Year of Emancipation with a Week of Events

Come celebrate the 150th anniversary of Maryland’s Emancipation with the Annapolis Commission on Maryland’s 3rd Constitution and the Abolishment of Slavery, an organization also known as Annapolis 1864. From October 25th through November 4th, join in commemorating Maryland’s abolishment of slavery by attending one or more of the many events held throughout the week-long celebration. With movies, lectures, re-enactments, and a theatrical performance, remember and honor those who fought and succeeded in abolishing slavery 150 years ago...more

Slaughter Across the Water: A Tug of War between Eastport and Annapolis

Maryland’s capital city is once again gearing up to battle the Annapolis neighborhood of Eastport in the Maritime Republic of Eastport Tug of War on November 8, 2014. Dubbed the lengthiest tug of war across water in the world, the annual clash is an endurance event with teams of no more than 33 tuggers set up on opposite sides of the Annapolis Harbor. Lasting anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes, each Tug of War battle provides onlookers with an exciting taste of a unique, regional tradition. With proceeds from the event going to local charities, attendees can enjoy the food, drinks, and live music on either side of the water – or even join a team and tug – while contributing to a good cause...more
