Newly added in 2017, the annual Annapolis Arts Week is a celebration of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County’s talented and diverse local arts community. The week-long event encompasses all the wide ranging artistic creativity that has made the area a haven for art lovers with its many art galleries, performance arts studios, musicians, and all around artistic talent.

With block parties, classes and workshops, four major events/festivals, live music, art exhibits, and much more, Annapolis Arts Week is the perfect way to get a sense of all the amazing art available to visitors and locals alike.

Get Festive

There are four major, can’t-miss festivals happening during this year’s Annapolis Arts Week: The Annapolis Arts & Wine Festival, Paint Annapolis, First Sundays Arts Festival, and the Annapolis Irish Festival. Each offers attendees a different experience – live music, painting, food and drinks, crafts, and live art demonstrations.

The Annapolis Irish Festival
Enjoy traditional Celtic music and Irish rock bands on three different stages, along with workshops and exhibits. When you get hungry, try some delicious Irish beef stew and other Irish favorites. Little Leprechaun Land provides pony rides, face painting and other free activities for the kids. Visit our page on the Annapolis Irish Festival for more information and to purchase tickets.

First Sunday Arts Festival
Every first Sunday of the month (May – December), from 11 am to 5 pm, the first block of West Street and Church Circle are closed to traffic and opened to hundreds of arts and crafts vendors selling all kinds of local art. Grab some food, enjoy live music, and shop for a new piece of artwork. It’s the perfect way to spend an afternoon with the whole family. Click here for more information.

Paint Annapolis
Paint Annapolis is a week-long, juried, plein air painting competition held each year that brings plein air painters to Annapolis from around the world. The event is designed to explore in paint the special colonial architecture, marine atmosphere and overall energy of Maryland’s capital city. You’ll see dozens of artists spread across the city painting right on the street demonstrating their talents. Visit the Maryland Federation of Art online to learn more about this countywide event.

The Annapolis Arts & Wine Festival
It’s a celebration of the area’s local artists and Maryland wines! Join Annapolis for a weekend filled with local artists demonstrating their talents live on-site; over 25 Maryland wineries to sample; dishes from 14 food trucks; over 200 artisan tents selling a wide range of arts and crafts; and live music! As one of the most anticipated events of the summer, it’s a great way to enjoy a sun-filled weekend. Visit our page on the Annapolis Arts & Wine Festival for more information and to purchase tickets today.

Enjoy the many Galleries and Exhibits

With over 20 galleries, all within a short walk from one another, it’s no wonder Annapolis was named one of the nation's Top 25 Arts Destinations in American Style Magazine's 12th Annual Arts Designation Poll. Annapolis’ galleries showcase a wide variety of artwork from pottery and glass fusing to sculpture, painting, and everything else in between. With Annapolis being such a walkable city, Arts Week is a great excuse to hit the streets and check out all the fantastic galleries in town.

Exhibits at our galleries occur throughout the year – a few of which are taking place during arts week. Visit the Annapolis Arts Week website for a full list of exhibits and events happening during the event.

Get Artistic with an Art Class or Workshop

One of the most exciting parts of having such a rich and thriving arts community in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County are the many organizations and businesses that offer classes and workshops for a wide range of art and performance disciplines. One of our partners, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, even offers mini ‘courses’ during Arts Week. Visit Annapolis Art Week’s Classes & Workshops page for more information on classes happening during the week.

Live Music throughout the Week

Aside from the many music venues in Annapolis that host performers each night, there are also a number of shows happening throughout Arts Week. First, the Annapolis Irish Festival (June 2 & 3) will feature three stages with traditional Celtic music and Irish rock bands playing over the two-day event. Dinner Under the Stars will also feature live street music during the popular al fresco dining event. Lastly, this year, the Annapolis Arts & Wine Festival has partnered with Naptownmusic to bring a number of local bands and musicians to the festival to keep the music going all weekend.

Join a Party!

Love a party? Join the local community in three block parties happening across Annapolis during Arts Week: Arts District Bounce, The Annapolis Design District Block Party, and Dinner Under the Stars. Enjoy food, music, art, and great company! Visit the Annapolis Arts Week website for more information.
