• The travel industry is one of Anne Arundel County’s most vital economic engines, generating millions of dollars in consumer spending and tax revenues for the local budget.
• Anne Arundel County leads all other Maryland counties and the City of Baltimore in travel generated expenditures.
• Nearly 6.4 million visitors to Anne Arundel County left behind more than $2.2 billion ($2.23 billion) in new revenues in 2009.
• The $2.2 billion spent by visitors to Anne Arundel County accounts for 16.1% of Maryland’s total visitor expenditures.
• Of the $2.2 billion tourism dollars spent in Anne Arundel County, $1.2 billion went to transportation; $352 million was spent on food and beverages; and $240.5 million covered lodging costs. Visitors spent $191.5 million on entertainment and $254.4 million while shopping.
• Travel expenditures in Anne Arundel County generated $636.4 million in payroll income for jobs directly related to tourism and another $301.1 million for jobs indirectly impacted by tourism.
• The tourism industry in Anne Arundel County directly employs 20,170 workers. Another 5,641 jobs are indirectly linked to the tourism industry.
• The tourism industry is the sixth largest employer in Anne Arundel County.
• Tourism expenditures in Anne Arundel County account for $257 million in state and local taxes, providing revenue for community infrastructure. Anne Arundel County tourism generates another $286.2 million in federal taxes.
