Wonders of the Chesapeake Campaign Highlights Annapolis' Uniqueness

Author: Susan Steckman

Release Date: Sep 11, 2009

ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND – The Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau (AAACCVB) has launched a three-month interactive promotional campaign designed to highlight the attractions and experiences that are unique to Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay. The Wonders of the Chesapeake campaign that kicked off September 8 encourages visitors and area residents to submit their recommendations via an online video contest. Destination enthusiasts are invited to upload, view, and rate videos through the AAACCVB’s VisitAnnapolis.org website. The contest winner will receive a Chesapeake Bay Getaway package.

AAACCVB President and CEO Connie Del Signore says the campaign is part of an ongoing strategy for reaching the new consumer. “Consumers don’t want to be marketed to anymore. They want to be engaged. By posting their videos, we are inviting a conversation to begin. Individuals will have an opportunity to see the wonders of our destination through the eyes of fellow travelers, rather than through the lens of a marketing guru. This makes the experience far more credible.” At the same time, the AAACCVB will be building a collection of videos that it can use to promote the destination.

Through November 30, rich media banner placements on websites targeting the Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Northern Virginia, Maryland, and New Jersey markets will encourage individuals to get involved. The AAACCVB’s social media marketing channels, a monthly consumer e-newsletter, and user-generated sites, including TripAdvisor and DiscoverAmerica.com, will target new and repeat visitors.

Once they arrive in the destination, travelers can take advantage of the AAACCVB’s “Information on Wheels,” an e-Cruzer bearing the AAACCVB logo and Come Sail Away brand. The electric car filled with visitors guides and coupons will provide visitors with complimentary shuttle service throughout Annapolis’ Historic District.

Interested individuals are invited to download a Wonders of the Chesapeake contest flyer from the VisitAnnapolis.org website or pick one up at the 26 West Street Visitors Center. In addition to information about the online video contest, the flyer includes a list of AAACCVB member partners who are providing discounts and/or specials throughout the campaign.

Wonders of the Chesapeake is the sixth in a series of integrated seasonal promotions that the AAACCVB has initiated to enhance brand awareness for the destination and stimulate the local economy.
