"More than a Pretty Face" Contest Winners Announced

ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND—After tallying the more than 5,000 votes that were cast for 42 candidates in its November More than a Pretty Face contest, the Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau (AAACCVB) is pleased to announce twelve winners. 

They are: longtime Annapolis resident and third-term Maryland State Senator John Astle; Historic Inns of Annapolis Innkeeper Peg Bednarsky; Anne Cobb and Carol Patterson, tenders of the First Presbyterian Church’s Memorial Garden at Duke of Gloucester and Conduit Streets; Yellowfin Steak & Fish House general manager Kevin Gersonde; J. Ernest Green, Music Director of Live Arts Maryland, home of the Annapolis Chorale and the Annapolis Chamber Orchestra; Partners in Care co-founder Barbara Huston; Annapolis Sailing Cruises: Schooner Woodwind and Woodwind II General Manager Jen Kaye; Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre president Carolyn Kirby; Paws Pet Boutique owner and operator Michelle Ullrich Kownacki; Dare to C.A.R.E. Foundation founder John D. Martin, MD, FACS; and Annapolis Chief of Police Michael Pristoop.

AAACCVB President and CEO Connie Del Signore says the More than a Pretty Face winners epitomize the spirit of giving and selflessness that make Annapolis and Anne Arundel County so appealing. “There’s no doubt about it, these caring individuals make our beautiful destination even more attractive. Their efforts and commitment enhance the quality of life for all who live, work, and visit Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. We are grateful that they have chosen to share their gifts with us.”

The More than a Pretty Face contest served as a prelude to the AAACCVB’s winter marketing campaign of the same name. When the campaign kicks off on November 30, visitors to the organization’s www.VisitAnnapolis.org homepage need merely click on the More than a Pretty Face icon to read more about the winners, see their pictures, and view a video in which they describe what makes the destination special to them.

The homepage will have a new look – complete with seasonal images designed to convey the spirit of the holidays Annapolis and Anne Arundel County style. Clicks of the mouse will take viewers to lists of holiday events and attractions as well as seasonal getaways and money-saving specials. Throughout December, the AAACCVB invites interested individuals to help personalize the site even further by adding their favorite holiday videos of the destination to the organization’s growing collection of user-generated videos.

The AAACCVB will help spread the word about the beauty and fun of the destination during the holidays through its flickr site, through Twitter and Facebook streams, and through :15 and :30-second live and streamed radio spots on DC radio station WASH-FM 97.1 through December 31. Banner ads on the WASH-FM website will help to further drive home the message that Annapolis and Anne Arundel County is the perfect place to prepare for and spend the holidays.

The More than a Pretty Face winter campaign is the seventh in a series of integrated seasonal promotions that that the AAACCVB has initiated to enhance brand awareness for the destination and stimulate the local economy. It was sparked by Forbes Traveler’s recent article naming Annapolis one of America’s Prettiest Towns for the second year in a row.

The AAACCVB is a nonprofit, membership-based, destination marketing organization that generates revenues for the local economy by promoting Annapolis and Anne Arundel County to leisure and business travelers across the country and around the world.
