German writer and artist Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once wrote, "A person should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day...." If you subscribe to this philosophy, you've come to the right place. Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay is home to a thriving visual and performing arts community. Performances by the Live Arts Maryland, Annapolis Opera, Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, and Ballet Theatre of Maryland make it easy for you to fulfill the musical part of Goethe's equation.

As for the arts component, Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay is home to dozens of fine art galleries - 25 of which are within walking distance of one another in downtown Annapolis. In addition to featuring three art galleries, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts offers classes, hosts residency programs, and sponsors musical and performing arts events year-round. The Elizabeth Myers Mitchell Gallery at St. John's College is the only accredited fine arts museum in the area. It's open to the public daily. Admission is free.
