The yuletide spirit kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with pre-show music followed by live music at 6:00 p.m.  This year’s event includes youth performances by the Talent Machine and St. Mary’s Noel choir plus the Sweet Adelines (Chesapeake Harmony) choral group. Stick around as Santa arrives by horse and buggy bearing treats for the children and Mayor Ellen O. Moyer says a few words prior to countdown to the tree lighting at approximately 7:00 p.m. Hot cocoa, hot cider, glow sticks and tree ornaments will be sold on-site. In the giving mood? The holiday spirit that prevailed in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries comes to life this holiday season at the William Paca House. Stroll through decorated rooms and listen as first person interpreters portraying real and fictitious characters provide a glimpse of life from centuries gone by. For the first time this year, living history interpreters portraying 18th-century frontiersmen will be stationed at the Barracks at 43 Pinkney Street. A guide will lead groups from the Paca House to the Barracks to find out how men from the colonial frontier are faring in their temporary quarters.

For more than 30 years, The Travelers have delighted audiences from DC to Japan. Musically, they have evolved from Pure Folk, to Folk-Bluegrass, to Folk-Country. The Ballet Theatre of Maryland takes their original Nutcracker tale and turns it into a fun-filled, family “mystery theatre whodunit' adventure. The Chesapeake Youth Symphony will be guest artists playing the Mystery Nutcracker LIVE in honor of BTM's 30th Anniversary. So if you like live music, great dancing, romance, mystery and Christmas magic, this is the experience for you.

225th Anniversary of George Washington’s Resignation

In honor of the anniversary of George Washington's resignation as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental army, the public is invited to view his original speech on display in the Old Senate Chamber of the Maryland State House. This very special public "open house" will feature a dramatic reading of WAshington's speech every hour, on the hour. Access to the State House, wich remains closed to the public for structural renovation, will be limited, and all visitors will enter through the south portico.

Enjoy a fun-filled, family-oriented New Year’s Eve celebration featuring a diverse and entertaining schedule of events at more than a dozen venues in and around historic Annapolis. Window performances, interactive venues, a WNAV Radio-sponsored karaoke competition, an ice sculpture demonstration, live musical entertainment and the “Last Race of 2008” will showcase Annapolis’ historic ability to bring a community together. Additional highlights include performances by Rob Levit (Jazz and Blues), Peter Brice (Irish), Clones of Funk (Funk), Annapolis Chorale, Annapolis Opera, Maryland Ballet Theatre, and special performances by the children’s band, Milkshake. There will be two fireworks displays: a 7:30 p.m. event for families and a big bang at midnight to ring in 2009.

A bit of China will come to the colonial seaport of Annapolis as the annual Historic Annapolis Antiques Show showcases the influence of “Chinoiserie” in fine American and European furnishings and art. Now in its 39th year, the show features 32 dealers offering items dating back to the 15th century. Proceeds benefit Historic Annapolis Foundation.
