The city of Annapolis is sometimes described as a “museum without walls” and that is certainly true when it comes to the art you see in the beautiful architecture. Annapolis has an array of different styles of buildings that span the centuries but is most notable for its colonial architecture of the early days of our country.

The Historic Markers program uses a color-coded system of plaques to signify different styles and time periods of architecture throughout the Historic District. From the 18th Century Georgian Mansions to the contemporary designs of the early 20th Century, there is much to see and explore.

You could take a self-guided walking tour through Annapolis, but if you are looking for a more in-depth, interactive experience, the Architrex tour is for you! Presented by Historic Annapolis in partnership with Annapolis Tours by Watermark, you can follow a local architect around the streets of Annapolis and learn more about the styles and features of some of the most notable examples of 17th and 18th buildings in the city. Tours are offered twice a month on Saturdays from May through September. Cost for adults is $22, children 3-11 years old is $14. Ages two and under are free. For more information, there are great resources at the Annapolis Visitor Center located at 26 West Street, as well as their conveniently located Info Booth in the front of the HarborMaster down at City Dock.
