Similar to other great beginnings, the start of Blanca Flor Silver Jewelry was a love story. Donna De Garcia studied abroad in Mexico where she found two loves: her artistic husband and exquisite local silver jewelry. From there, Blanca Flor was born. Donna knew the beauty and story of these pieces and that the local artists had to be shared beyond Mexico’s silver capital of Taxco. From one charming colonial town to another, Donna opened Blanca Flor Silver Jewelry in downtown Annapolis. The simple mission has remained the same since the doors opened 25 years ago: share the beauty and individuality of other cultures and communities with customers through unique designs in sterling silver. This is done by providing a space where art, community, and international culture has a place to co-exist.

In recent years, Donna passed the torch to her daughter Sofia who grew up with Blanca Flor as a second home and family. Sofia continues to carry on the traditions her mother established through curating authentic, international pieces of jewelry, along with pottery and art distinctly featured in the shop. Each piece is chosen with their customers in mind. They’ll feel like their piece has a story behind it since everything is created from individual designers and families. Blanca Flor isn’t the only multi-generational part of this story. Sofia works with the grandchildren of silver designers who collaborated with her mother at the beginning of this journey. The preservation of these designs runs deep, and thanks to Sofia, it lives on since the designs tend to get lost if no one is buying them and passing them down.

Blanca Flor’s customers cover a vast range - from women interested in a conservative look for work to longing for something that expresses a unique part of their style, such as a bold turquoise cuff from the Southwest. The flagship shop caters to tourists and locals alike. An online shopping experience is also available to customers anywhere in the United States.

The story of Blanca Flor isn’t complete without the mention of their incredible staff. Several of their team members have been with the shop for over 10 years and even includes other mother-daughter duos. They’re a family. The staff is made up of a wonderful group of women from all different walks of life who adore their work.

Sofia’s love of travel and passion for different cultures sets the tone in the shop and reflects off the curation of unique silver pieces. Her mission to bring the craftsmanship of places like Bali and Poland to the docks of Annapolis enriches the downtown shopping experience. She’s determined to get more involved with local businesses and like-minded visionaries who empower women, value the preservation of heritage and promote storytelling within the community. And as for her mother Donna, she is currently living the sweet semi-retired life in Mexico! Donna is able to enjoy a different side of Blanca Flor as her local legacy continues to provide our seaside town with exotic style from far and wide.
