In Maryland, crabs plus beer plus a deck bar equals “Summer.” And in northern Anne Arundel County, Mike’s Crab House North excels at Summer.

Mike’s North (1402 Colony Rd, Pasadena, MD) is located at a marina on Rock Creek, where arriving guests are treated to the expansive views of the creek as well as the Patapsco River beyond. Although the large inside dining room and bar have wonderful views, it is the huge outdoor deck and Tikki bar that will put the “happy” in your hour on a summer afternoon or early evening. With the sounds of Jimmy Buffett, Bob Marley and other summer tunes piped in, all you need is to select your drink and you can slip into Island Time, if only for a couple of hours.

During happy hour (4:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. weekdays), most domestic bottled beers are $2.50, providing the natural drink choice to accompany “All You Can Eat Crabs” for $28.95 per person. Although this is the only drink special during happy hour, Mike’s offers a variety of the most popular summer refreshments at reasonable prices. If you are a member of the “Crush” drink crowd, in addition to the traditional Orange Crush, you may select Mango, Cran-Orange, Fuzzy Naval or Ruby Red (Grapefruit) Crushes—all made from freshly squeezed juices.

Pain in the A** Pain in the A**

For those who need additional cooling down, the friendly bartenders will prepare a number of sweet frozen concoctions for you: Traditional Margaritas or Strawberry Margaritas and Daiquiris, Pina Coladas, Mudslides, Dirty Bananas or  even a “Pain in the A**”. Since these last two were unknown to me, my guest and I ordered them. The Frozen Mudslide contains several types of alcohol including banana liquor and kahlua, a frozen banana-flavored mixture, and ice cream topped with whipped cream and a chocolate drizzle. Delicious, cool, and a great choice for dessert. The Pain in the A** is actually a  layered combination of Pina Colada and Strawberry Daquiri. I’m not sure why it is so named. Perhaps because it is a pain for the bartenders to make?

Additionally, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. weekdays, wings and oysters are just $.50 a piece

The deck and Tikki bar have ample shade areas for when the thermometer is reading crazy hot, and often there’s a breeze off the water. Arrive by boat or by car with family and friends. Your happy hour can easily turn into a mini vacation in this relaxing setting.
