Annapolis and Anne Arundel County are filled with beautiful spots to enjoy nature, but few come close to the size and range of options as Quiet Waters Park. Nestled in Hillsmere off of Forest Drive, the park offers a wide array of activities for all four seasons and great spots to hold incredible events. I had the privilege of exploring the park with Ranger Dave, whose enthusiasm and knowledge of the park was contagious. He’s been working there for 13 years and he seemed to know every plant, animal, and area of interest to appreciate.

I can’t wait to bring my family to Quiet Waters this fall, where we can explore over six miles of paved trails and three miles of non-paved trails to hike and bike through the gorgeous fall foliage. If I can talk my dogs into it, I’m definitely attending the Halloween Back and Bash, where dogs and owners dress up (often in coordinating costumes) for a costume contest. My husband and I are also looking forward to the Twist and Stout beer festival in late September.

Outside of these scheduled events, we can bring the kids and dogs to the dog beach, play on the playgrounds, picnic in one of the many pavilions, or even hold a party or meeting on-site in one of the lovely centers. In one area, a pond, a pedestrian bridge, and a gazebo create the perfect backdrop for a wedding (fantastic photos guaranteed!). When walking around, interesting art sculptures seemed to appear out of the blue. You can go one minute from pondering an art piece, to watching a huge group of turtles swim around, to relaxing in a butterfly garden with a good book.

Quiet Waters ParkWhile the park can boast of year-round activities, kids and families get very excited when the large reflection fountain turns into a glorious outdoor ice rink for the winter. With skating available from November to early March, visitors can glide around while enjoying the sensational setting around them. It’s a great time for everyone.

Whenever you want to experience a little of the great outdoors, it’s wonderful to know we have such a diverse park right in our back yard. I encourage you to discover all Quiet Waters Park has to offer.
