When last we checked in with our friends over at Crooked Crab Brewing, they were just getting started, but already cranking out some of the best beer in Maryland. Well, the boys are back at it, just finishing up the inaugural Get Crooked Fest. Featuring local music, lawn games, and of course, great beer, Get Crooked Fest was a welcome addition to the already jam-packed Annapolis festival circuit.

Perhaps best of all, a portion of the proceeds go towards a local non-profit partner. A portion of this year’s proceeds went to support the Oyster Recovery Partnership (oysterrecovery.org), which helps to bring health to the Chesapeake Bay through the restoration of our local oyster beds.  “It was a natural partnership. We knew it the second we chatted with them. We hope to have a long term relationship with [Oyster Recovery Partnership],” says Crooked Crab co-owner Daniel Messeca.

The festival also focused on the local music scene, including headliner Jimmy’s Chicken Shack. “I’m excited about every band,” says Messeca before the show. “Yellow Dub Marine, a reggae Beatles tribute. Stolen Roads is classic Southern Rock. There’ll be a little something for everyone.”

Crooked Crab took the occasion to even release a couple of brand new beers. The Pashmina Afghan, brewed by Crooked Crab, is an easy drinking blond ale, perfect for summer. Crooked Crab also partnered with Hysteria Brewing to release the mimosa-inspired sour ale “You’re Killing Me Smalls” at Get Crooked Fest.

In the midst of running a fledgling craft brewery, you might ask why the Crooked Crab crew decided to start a festival. “We have a deep love of beer, and also of music,” explains Messeca. Co-owners Alex and Daniel have played in bands since age 14 and made having music at Crooked Crab’s tasting room a staple. “We want to bring cool music to the county we’re serving, and share a common experience. That’s on brand with who we are as a brewery.” Right on, fellas. Can’t wait to “Get Crooked” next year.
