So, it’s the middle of July, and you are currently browsing the internet looking at other peoples’ vacation photos, or you’re the one on vacation making all your friends and family jealous with Facebook albums full of vibrant ocean sunsets that look too beautiful to be real. Personally, I think I’ve played more the role of the admirer rather than the admired this summer, but I did get a chance to visit one of the coolest places I’ve ever been to - and it’s right here in Anne Arundel County!

Hancock’s Resolution

On the east side of Pasadena, the Historic Hancock’s Resolution sits quietly in the Bodkin Creek as it has for over 230 years.  Once a 410-acre tobacco farm owned by Stephen Hancock Jr., Hancock’s Resolution was passed down through eight generations of the Hancock Family, and is now a historic park of the Anne Arundel County Park System.

From April to October, on Sundays from 1-4PM (except Easter Sunday, of course), the Farm is open to the public. Friends of Hancock’s Resolution (FOHR), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, helps fund and operate the Farm, in an effort to preserve the history of how many Anne Arundel County farming families lived in the eighteenth through twentieth centuries. In fact, it is one of the few remaining eighteenth-century stone dwellings in Anne Arundel County still in use to this day!

After the last descendant of the Hancock Family died in 1962, the Farm and lands were donated to the Annapolis Historic Society to be, “preserved for historical value." Now, while touring the grounds, you can explore the scenery of flowers and trees or go over to the beehives to see how honey is harvested!

I know it’s hot out there, but take my word for it - you’ll love it out here. Admission is free, too! What better way to spend a summer afternoon?
