The circus is in Town! The circus is in town! Nitro Circus that is, where the acrobats and clowns are flying through the air on bikes, motorbikes, and other vehicles that were definitely never meant for flight. Fueled by engines, physics, and just plain crazy, these stunts are performed by the greatest daredevil athletes in the world – and they’re coming to Annapolis this month. Add some pyrotechnics and one hometown hero, and we’ve got ourselves a show!
Travis Pastrana is an Annapolis native with five X Games gold medals, five golds from the Gravity Games, and is notable for (among many things) being the first person in the world to land a double backflip on a motorcycle during the X Games' Best Trick contest. Oh, he also just smashed the world record for the Mt. Washington Hill climb in the middle of July.
Pastrana’s expertise includes winning anything that has “X”, “cross”, “moto”, or the name of an energy drink in its title, but that’s not all. He also has a big heart and uses his well-deserved notoriety to help out organizations such as Make a Wish Foundation, Road2Recovery Foundation, and Race4Change to name a few. In a visit to Naptown earlier this summer, Travis and the Nitro Circus crew were very generous to the community. They talked to kids about safety, performed stunt demonstrations (even jumping a bike over the Mayor!), and visited with the locals at Dinner Under the Stars to support Boys & Girls Club of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County as well as the Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Scholarship Trust. In his week-long homecoming visit, we couldn’t get enough of this guy!
Clearly Travis and all the athletes of Nitro Circus never heeded the “don’t try this at home kids” warning, and they have one amazing world-famous event to show for it. Nitro Circus tickets are available at NitroCircus.com. When I say it’s fun for the whole family, I’m not kidding. I’m bringing my whole circus: mom and dad, husband, younger brother and sister, and even Grandma!
Check it out Sunday July 23 at Navy-Marine Corp Memorial Stadium.
