In a prime location, just one block off of beloved Ego Alley is a discreet and subtle storefront that dons an organic vibe with simple signage and a welcoming open door. Situated on the corner of Prince George Street and Randall Street, Taro Smoothie is within walking distance to the Naval Academy, a number of hotels and Bed & Breakfasts, and the City Dock. Adding a homegrown and earthy approach to its menu, Taro Smoothie invites you to come in and indulge in one of their many menu options that aim to satiate and heal.

The atmosphere is simple and open with a few tables, a bar, and even a private back patio with outdoor seating. The music is light and with the door propped open, the setting encourages you to take a seat and stay awhile.

Open for just over two months, Taro Smoothie seems to have carved out a niche in the Annapolis market. Offering smoothies and Acai bowls, owner Jonas Vasquez proudly states that their fresh menu options do not include any added “sugar or syrups, nothing is frozen and depending on the season we use all organic items”. Aimed at not only being delicious, Taro Smoothies also sections off their menu to include a few favorite selections that target health and wellness.

There are a few Anti-Inflammatory smoothies that work to reduce inflammation and joint pain. With ingredients like ginger, turmeric, and fresh fruits, the taste is enjoyable but the overall health benefits are even better. There are other options focused on Skin and Hair health and a specialty section that offers a soothing approach at calming a hangover, featuring a way to detox from the night before and start the day fresh. They have also just introduced two 100% vegan sandwich options.

During our visit, we were able to try Vasquez’s personal favorite menu item, the Anti-Inflammatory #2 - a smoothie concoction that includes cantaloupe, ginger, pineapple, orange juice, and turmeric. Clean and refreshing, this was a wonderful morning boost to begin our Sunday.

When visiting, make sure to ask for a tour of the menu. There are many options and it's easy to bypass some of the additional add-ins, bowl options, and other treats. If you get the delightful opportunity to run into Jonas, he’ll gladly walk you through the menu with the goal to find something that fills your body’s current needs. Whether it be a morning boost, a recovery tool, a post-workout treat, or an afternoon snack, Taro Smoothie will aim to please.

Owner Jonas Vasquez grew up in Annapolis and has had the honor of watching the landscape of the city grow. With that, he introduces Taro Smoothie out of a love of eating clean, as well as drawing in wellness and health into his fresh smoothies and bowls. Seeing a need for something that he finds passion in, he opened Taro Smoothie in a superb location with views of the water from just around the corner.

Local Eater Tip: Vasquez enjoys Sailor Oyster Bar, Dock Street Bar & Grill, and Pip’s Dock Street Dogs for a cold drink and bite to eat.
