The United States Sailboat Show began in Annapolis in October 1970 on City Dock. Considered a novelty of the time, the show has evolved into a mainstay of the international sailing industry and the largest event of its kind in the world. After a humble beginning that featured just 51 boats, the 50th Anniversary of the Sailboat Show this year has more than 250!
It’s sister event—the United States Power Boat Show—now in its 48th year, will display more than 650! The Shows are constructed in and around Ego Alley along with huge circus tents that are pitched across the parking areas that line the docks. Once the gates are open, nearly 100,000 people will attend, and many from outside the United States will come specifically for the United States Sailboat Show.
Most years the Sailboat show is held first, however this year the Power Show is October 3-6, and the Sailboat Show is October 10-14 (Columbus Day weekend). The Sail Show is as much a celebration of all things sailing as it is an important launchpad for new sailboat designs, innovative marine gear, and also the occasion of several unique learning opportunities.
