Fort Meade

Fort Meade is a U.S. Army installation located in Anne Arundel County, and the largest employer in the county and the state. Like many military installations, it is almost a city in itself, with many amenities on property like schools, a library, chapel, commissary, and fitness center.

The post opened in 1917 and, after several name changes, landed on George G. Meade, a Union General from the Civil War, as a namesake.

Fort Meade is 12 miles southwest of BWI Airport and 20 miles northwest of Annapolis.

For families serving at Fort Meade, information about events on base can be found on the Fort Meade Morale, Welfare and Recreation site.
