Maryland Day All Week
Since 2008, the Chesapeake Crossroads Heritage Area and its partners across Annapolis and Anne Arundel County have hosted Maryland Day events, often for free or just $1. Partners host special events, programs, and activities showcasing our local historic buildings, museums and heritage sites, art galleries, natural resources, and parks. Maryland Day has become the kick-off of the spring heritage tourism season. In 2026, Maryland Day in the Chesapeake Crossroads Heritage Area is expanding to an entire week March 19-25.
What is Maryland Day?
Maryland Day commemorates the anniversary of March 25, 1634, when the first European settlers from the Ark and the Dove landed on Maryland soil. Marylanders began observing Maryland Day in 1903, when the State Board of Education designated it as a day devoted to the study of Maryland history. In 1916, the General Assembly authorized the celebration of Maryland Day as a legal state holiday. This year, we invite you to join us in celebrating the unique culture and heritage of our state for not just one day, but for a whole week.
