Hey there! Back again with this week’s live music calendar. Some very exciting things happening in the Greater Annapolis Area Music Scene. Firstly, there are more and more artists finding a way to utilize technology to keep getting music to the good folks at home. Hurricane Kevin’s Virtual Open Mic Night will show how far reaching our musical family can reach by including talent from around the globe this week, as well as the launch of Kevin’s solo projects “Tuesday Tea”. We also have the continuation of the series “Tunes From the Town”, which has been put together by Annapolis Town Center and Symmetry to benefit Annapolis Musicians Fund for Musicians (AMFM). AMFM is a group dedicated to assisting local musicians who have found themselves with cut gigs and this conglomerate will match up to $5,000 in donations to AMFM.

Last week was also the launch of Shakya’s innovative take on this whole long distance live music thing… quite literally playing music, live, in front of you, at a comfortable distance. On April 13th local musician Shakya began the Social Quarantine Unified Isolation and Distancing (SQUID) Tour, where he travels to local residences and performs for you! While promoting his new soul R&B single, “Melt,” Shakya asks that you donate a minimum of $10 to a local benefit and cover the gas money to secure a spot on the tour.

All medical personnel and those participating in charity work during this pandemic can take part in this without the donation! Some highlights so far include one family setting up a performance space in their driveway, PA system and all, stopping by Jimi Davies’ (of Jimi’s Chicken Shack) spot and being gifted a mask from him and wife Karen, and on the first day of the tour a special birthday performance. “I went into it not knowing what to expect, I just wanted to do something and see what people thought” Shakaya reflected “and they really liked it!” The SQUID tour will be continuing for the foreseeable future, so head on over to the event page and get jiggy with it!

As always, keep tabs on your favorite local artists as some live streams will be more spontaneous! For example, trumpet player from local jazz group Unified Jazz Ensemble, Tim Stanley, will be hitting the web at some point next week and Ruben Dobbs of Swampcandy will be going live at some point on Sunday. You can also follow Annapolis Streaming and Naptown Music to find more events and catch many of the performances shared!
Stay safe, support local music, and keep your ear holes filled! Until next week!
