The long-awaited reopening of the Dunn Municipal Pool at Truxtun Park has arrived. After a $4 million renovation and slightly delayed opening due to the current coronavirus pandemic, the gates were pulled back for summer-loving locals. The new and improved city pool includes a six-lane lap pool, a leisure pool with a beach entry, curly slides and water elements, plus a splash pad with more water elements for younger kids. The variety of pools and activities serves a range of swimmers, from those looking to exercise with lap swimming to quality family time around the leisure pool. It will also remain open through September to give more visitors a chance to use the new facilities.

New Pool Facilities

In addition to the two pools and splash pad, you can satisfy your mid-swim hunger at the fully stocked snack bar. The pool decks offer ample seating in zones for a safe social distance. Large umbrellas accompany each seating area to provide maximum shade for those looking to catch fewer rays. Other upgrades include a new bathhouse with changing rooms and showers and a welcoming entryway that effectively accommodates the most recent COVID guidelines.

Pool Open through October 4th

The pool’s upscale renovations are a welcoming surprise to those who are familiar with the previous establishment. Although many people knew the swim complex was undergoing a facelift, there’s a positive buzz among swimmers and loungers at the facility. Those enjoying the facility feel fortunate that they’re able to spend time in a clean and refreshing environment on the last of these hot summer days. While other pools may be closing over Labor Day weekend, the pool at Truxtun Park will remain open through October 4th according to the city's website.

Truxton Park & Pool

Unfortunately, the pool doesn’t offer 2020 seasonal passes due to the short remainder of the season, but that is something pool-goers can look forward to in summers to come. The community efforts to create a space for families and avid swimmers have been generously embraced.

Often you’ll see families and small groups enjoying a picnic at the pavilion across the parking lot waiting patiently between swimming sessions as the staff diligently disinfects the facility. Truxtun Park serves Annapolitans in many ways, from Spa Creek access to sports fields, but the renovation of this swimming complex elevates the park experience and sense of community.
