What is Earth Day?

In 1970, a major national effort was created and organized to focus attention on the importance of a movement directed towards the recognition of a healthy environment. Some events that first led to this collective, non-partisan rally included concerns with air and water pollution due to oil spills, toxic dumps, and lack of control of factories emitting gases into the air.

Earth Day ignited the creation U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, as well as the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Act.
