Susan Hill

Susan Hill serves as Director of Finance & Administration for Visit Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (VAAAC), where she oversees the financial operations of the organization and its affiliated foundation. She provides the oversight, transparency and accountability that a publicly funded destination marketing and management organization requires. Her responsibilities include financial system oversight, cash flow management, payroll, budget planning, accounts payable and receivable, revenue and expense reporting, benefits administration and grant financial reporting. She also leads the annual audit and the auditor selection process.

Hill joined VAAAC in May of 2022 as Accounting Manager and has since been promoted twice, first to Assistant Director of Finance and then to her current role. Her promotions have tracked the organization’s growth. As its budget and staff doubled, she led the conversion of its accounting system to NetSuite, a cloud-based enterprise resource planning platform. She also built the customizations, integrations and reporting that allow the finance function to scale without adding risk.

Hill brings more than 25 years of experience in financial operations, financial analysis, accounting, marketing and administration to her role at VAAAC. She has worked for nonprofit organizations, publicly traded firms and privately held companies in tourism, telecommunications, healthcare and construction. In each setting, her work has focused on building the processes, controls and reporting that give leaders clear visibility into their organization’s finances.

Before joining VAAAC, Hill was Director of Financial Operations for a fast-growing electrical engineering firm in Annapolis. She oversaw all accounting and fiscal functions there and built job-costing and billing models to improve forecasting and bidding. Hill also founded Two Daisies, LLC, an independent consulting firm serving small businesses. Her clients included a safety, health and environmental consultancy, for which she built risk-assessment and compliance models used in its work with aviation and manufacturing clients.

Hill began her career in telecommunications, working at the intersection of marketing and analysis. At MCI, she developed and maintained an extensive system of quantitative and sensitivity models for forecasting, planning and analysis. At Winstar Communications, she led competitive analysis, pricing and product launch strategy. That background gives her an understanding of how marketing investment works and how to measure it, which is directly relevant to an organization whose mission is destination marketing.

After growing up across Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Kansas and Virigina, Hill proudly calls Annapolis home. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and French from Washington and Lee University. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, photography and hanging out with her husband, two daughters and two perfect cockapoos.

Her favorite place to visit is Vin 909 Winecafé for the best pizza in Annapolis.
